Christie Hemm Klock
Christie Hemm Klok is a photographer working across highly technical, high-level imagery for clients and subjects ranging from National Geographic-style documentary work to science, wildlife, manufacturing, technology, health and fitness. Her work is vast and varied, so the identity and website needed to feel flexible enough to hold very different types of imagery together, while still feeling precise, considered and distinctive.
The solution was built around a tight underlying dot grid, giving the site a technical and structured foundation. This grid informs the typography, layout and image placement, creating a system that feels controlled without becoming rigid.
The image layout changes each time, appearing random while still conforming to the underlying system. Varied image sizes create movement and unpredictability, allowing the site to reflect the breadth of Christie’s work without feeling like a conventional portfolio. The result is a visual system that feels scientific, editorial and highly adaptable, allowing very different categories of work to sit confidently next to each other.
The bright yellow gives the identity a fresh, technical energy, while also offering a subtle nod to the visual language of National Geographic. Paired with large-scale typography, it gives the site confidence, immediacy and a strong editorial presence.
